St. Mary's Park Playground Plan

January 2008 --

If you haven't been to the Rec Center in awhile, changes are afoot! Security fencing is up and ground has been broken! Look here for periodic photo updates, or, heck - take a walk down to the playground and watch the big equipment push dirt and sand around (kids love that!).

Meghan Tiernan, of Rec and Park's Capital Improvement Division, advises, "The improvements are occurring on the mid level of the park at the location of the current playground. The playground area will be slightly enlarged and have all new play equipment and safety surfacing. We will be demolishing the existing restroom building and converting the back wall into a climbing wall. A new restroom will be located on the same level outside of the play area as part of this project (although the plan says Phase 2). We're hoping that if the budget allows we can also add a small plaza with some picnic tables at the top of the stairs near the Rec Building (not shown on the plan)."

this meeting was postponed from 9/20 to 10/4, but the end result is the same - check back here for meeting details:

"I don't expect any problem on Thursday getting approval for award of contract from the Rec & Park Commission. The agenda wording just reflects the formality of requesting approval the Commission. Though it doesn't hurt to have community support in the audience if anyone can and wants to make the RPC meeting that afternoon.

I'm looking forward to the start of construction on this project. St. Mary's is going to be a very fun playground when it's done."
